Cheng Tng

This stall is well known for their Dinosaur Ice Kachang ($2.30), where Milo powder and red beans take the place of sugar syrup and evaporated milk, but most of the Tastemakers found it way too sweet. Instead, they highly recommend the Cheng Tng ($2). Most stalls load the cheng tng with sugar syrup and cheaper fillers like agar agar, which is why Tastemaker Jonathan Wong really appreciates that this bowl comes chock full of traditional ingredients like dried persimmons and candied winter melon. This means that you can easily slurp up a whole bowl of refreshing sweet soup without it becoming a sugar overload. We'll have two, please!

With the base already filled with the traditional ice kachang ingredients, its taken to another level with the topped red beans, a generous dusting of milo powder, gula melaka and chocolate sauce.

I’d rather have their cheng tng which comes with a chockful of ingredients, but if you really want to try this, please have it to share to avoid bouncing off the walls for hours to come. #burppletiongbahrumarket

While most places overload their desserts with sugar and agar agar, this is full of traditional ingredients like dried persimmons and candied winter melon, and you will be able to finish the bowl without dying of a sugar overload. Remember the cheng tng I wrote about in the previous post? This is it.
If I were to zhng this dish, I would add brandy/cognac to it (drawing inspiration from @littlebastardsg), and some kalamansi juice to it to brighten it up. #burpple #burppletiongbahrumarket

While the base of the Dinosaur Ice Kachang is filled with traditional ingredients (like agar agar, corn, red bean etc.), milo powder and red beans take the place of syrup and evaporated milk atop the ice shavings. This dessert gives you an extreme sugar rush - meaning most people would not be able to finish the entire bowl by themselves unless they have a very sweet tooth. A pretty gimmicky dessert in my humble opinion - I would say to skip this entirely and go for the cheng tng instead. #burpple #burppletiongbahrumarket
