Medium-rare Australian Ribeye Steak

Located in an obscure row of shophouses at Jalan Besar, @sidewayssg is a café with brunch during the day and a woodfired casual dining restaurant at night. Its menu features a variety of Mediterranean-inspired small plates and mains, as well as Sourdough that are baked in-house using their very own wood-fired brick oven.

The food that they served was sumptuous and definitely exceeded my expectations. With an appealing pinkish hue in the middle, the juicy steak was simply tender and had a great smoky flavour too.

This was an amazing small plate. At 150g, it was a sufficient amount for a small plate, yet just enough to satisfy our taste buds. The steak was done so perfectly to medium rare, with a really well-flavoured exterior and almost crispy crust and tender insides.

Gorgeous lamb rack that falls nively off the bone; a very good portion for the man (not for the light palate). Perfectly cooked barramudi crusted with squid ink, loaded with crashed peanuts. Beef bone marrow and nicely charred asparagus on mozzarella cheese for starters... worth a try especially with beyond app.

Had a great dinner at Sideways located at Jalan Besar.

The restaurant’s listed on Burpple Beyond so I had to give the 1-for-1 three-course set meal (~$49++) a try which includes a small plate appetiser, a main and a dessert.

There’s quite an extensive list for the appetisers and mains but only one option for dessert which was their house made tiramisu. But I loved the tiramisu so it’s all good there. There’s also a good variety of cocktails and beers to go with the food.

For my appetiser, I opted for the “stairway to heaven” medium rare ribeye steak. It was tender, well-seasoned which was great for such an affordable price. For my main, I chose the smoked pork belly. It came with sides of artichoke and avocado tapenade which were delicious but the pork was a tad tougher than what I would have liked. My fellow diner’s blackened barramundi was excellent so you might wanna consider that instead!

Overall, I would definitely come back to try more dishes as well as the brunch menu! :D

Cheekily named Stairway to Heaven and with a price point of $18, this will surely give you massive satisfaction for the quality that you’re going to get. A sure-winner and must-order.

150g rib-eye for $13? Sign me up! Don't expect exceptional marbling, but this char-grilled steak was tasty and well-cooked.

The people behind The Hangar has opened up a cozy new space serving up Mediterranean-inspired cuisine; think pickles made in-house, freshly baked sourdough, uhhhhmazing dips (smoked eggplant & peppers dip? YAS) and exciting meats like their crispy, crusty roasted lamb.

But one of my favs is this simple and very affordable rib eye steak (150g). Grilled and seasoned beautifully, it’s wonderfully delicious in its simplicity. With the warm hospitality from Pav and Giulia and the comforting food that they put out, Sideways seems to whisk you away to a safe space.😝 They’ve just opened their doors for dinner service, with plans for brunch down the road, so do check in with them if you’re planning to visit!
