The most popular eatery at East Village which requires you to call to order your claypot rice in advance to save hours of waiting. The claypot was well oiled hence delivering mouths of fragrant charred rice. The big chicken chunks were well marinated and tender. Of course the Chinese sausages were a delight. The only lacklustre part was the lack of aroma from the dark sauce. The ABC soup was pretty bland with a missing natural sweetness from the vegetables (eg carrot). The wanton mee was on point with al dente noodles tossed in pork lard and slices of nicely caramelised char siew.

Dry Wantan Mee, regular $4.50/ large $5.50. We enjoyed this bowl of wanton mee so much and think that it taste much better than the other ENG’S. Noodle texture was good and springy, totally infused with the flavorful gravy. Their Char siew is very special, it’s so tender with a little fats in it, and tasted charred too!! Also comes in 3 wantons in the delicious soup too! Another old school wanton mee that very comforting and enjoyable! .

Claypot rice. There’s 3 sizes to choose from, small 1 pax $7, medium 2pax $13, large 4pax $23. As seen in the pic, we choose the medium size claypot. Their service is very good.. upon serving, they will add in the black sauce and stir it up for us thoroughly. The amount of black sauce added is just nice, not too much and sweet for our liking. Rice texture is good and moist, chicken is very tender, juicy like thigh meat and there’s zero bones in it, there’s also Chinese sausage and salted fish in it too! This claypot rice is definitely on point, everything in it is so good and heavenly shiok!!! Truly, one of the best claypot rice we had! .

During busy meal time, you could wait up to 20mins so it’s best to call them in advance to order - 阿清砂煲饭 98680934

Fans of Eng’s wanton noodle and Geylang claypot rice rejoice! You can enjoy both dishes under the same roof at this branch. Best!

Smells so fragrant when served. Every bite I took had little bits of crispy char rice. Yummy. Kudos to Ah Ching, who is the one-man show, still insisted on the traditional method to prepare the claypot rice

Just realised something was missing in the pot? Guess what?

By an ex-Geylang Claypot Rice chef, this version from Eng’s Wanton Noodles at East Village is a good complement to the Wantan Mee. Love the burnt edges and char of the rice here, and the small portion (featured here, S$7) suffice for 1-2 persons if your appetite is not huge!
