Along with a bigger, more expansive and upscale space, Mod-Sin restaurant Enjoy’s second outlet at Stevens Road introduces new dishes such as this riff on yu sheng – slices of fresh hamachi sashimi, salmon roe, crispy fish skin and dobs of tangy sauce concocted from plum sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and ginger. This was well-balanced and very light on the palate but not at all lacking in flavour.

Why go through the trouble of peeling crabs when you can have the best part of Chilli Crab - the sauce - together with large succulent prawns that have already been peeled for you. This version of chilli crab sauce is particularly rich and redolent with spiciness, perfect together with the house golden brown fried mantous(50 cents each / min. order of 4).

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Still as sinfully fatty and melt-in-your-mouth as from their original outlet. These charred slivers of deliciousness come served with an unusual side of achar and peanuts. But hey it works!

The flagship exclusive Popiah Garden ($14) was a lovely way to end the meal. Presented with three scoops of gelato — Blue Pea Pandan Lemongrass, Sea Salt Horlicks, and Soursop, the handmade popiah skin “lawn” was topped with shaved peanut candy “soil” and coriander “shrubs”. A fun and yummy rendition of the familiar Taiwanese Peanut Candy Ice Cream Roll, all three old-school flavours were rather spot-on for me with my pick being the fragrant yet delicate blue pea pandan lemongrass. The Horlick had a rather strong malty profile while the Soursop was more of a refreshing sorbet with a nice fruity zing.

A great item to share is the Salt-Baked Whole Barramundi ($40) which comes with a tangy spicy nam-jim Thai seafood dipping sauce. Crusted in salt and baked to perfection, the method cooks the fish evenly and also locks in the moisture - resulting in its moist and tender flesh. Sourced locally, it tasted real fresh too, getting the natural sweetness of the catch to shine.

Chef Joel’s BBQ Pork Cheek ($18) comes highly recommended as well. Not too lean or fatty, the succulent premium pork cheek got my stamp of approval with the beautifully charred edges. Served with Chef Joel’s special Isaan-inspired sauce, the meat has tons of smokiness and was great with or without the dip.
