After hearing about The Alley for SO LONG, I finally gave in. On the MRT, I scrolled through the tagged section of their Instagram and was amazed by the eccentric range of drinks, from sparkly multi-coloured teas to brown sugar bobas. They have a new range of crunchy bubble teas that sounded very innovative and tempting, but as a first-timer, I went with the classic brown sugar series.
Upon hearing the name, I was intrigued to try a crème brûlée flavoured drink, and it was a risk worth taking because it tasted and looked like a dreammmmmm. Deerioca is their trademark method of cooking the bubbles in a “brown sugar lava” for two hours leaving the boba with a warm and chewy texture and coated in a viscous brown sugar syrup. The tea tasted EXACTLY like a milky crème brûlée. Every bite of the bubbles and sip of the excessively sweet tea woke up every taste bud on my tongue, leaving me with a crazy sugar rush.
Towards the end, because of the hot-and-cold bubbles and ice, the milk started to solidify at the bottom, creating small lumps. I recommend finishing the drink within 20 minutes.
💸: $6.50, though I used a voucher, it is on the pricier end, not sure if I would usually spend this much on 🧋.
⚠️: The shops are pretty spread out around Singapore and have specific opening times. Check out there website for more details.
✨: 3.9/5
Memory/tip/highlight: My friend called it “diabetes in a cup”, and initially I rolled my eyes, but it definitely was just that.
