As an anti-durian consumer, I chose the former to be paired with the salted egg mochi balls. Served with white chocolate crunch, the softserve is essentially a lotus flavoured one, with a characteristic sweetness and a soft, creamy and smooth melt-in-the mouth texture. Literally felt as if I was having mooncakes in a deconstructed form when the burst salted egg yolk revealed itself with a slight explosion from the charcoal mochi balls. Salted egg, lotus, what’s just missing is the pastry crust... with the mochi balls as a substitute? Sure, why not! Served hot, the mochi balls were soft and chewy and filled generously with creamy, luscious salted egg yolk fillings that had a subtle lingering salty aftertaste. Would have preferred if the salted egg yolk was slightly more salty as the custard-like sweetness got me into a sugar coma when paired with another sweet element- lotus softserve. The white chocolate crunch resembled Rice Krispies which added a pleasant crunch factor to the softserve. (PS: Mooncake and durian softserve are only available for a limited time. Do catch these seasonal flavours before they are gone!) In the meantime, I m guessing the next rotational flavour would be Halloween-themed? 🤔
