Calzone is technically a pizza, change my mind. Look, it’s just a pizza with extra dough at the top to form a covered pie, alright. I’m right you’re wrong, you’re welcome for my TED Talk.

Technical definitions aside, there’s no argument that @piu39_italianpizzabar Calzone Stupefacente ($25++) is guaranteed to win everyone’s hearts (and stomachs). Sure, it’s far from being the most dainty dish that’s insta-ready, but it’s ready to get into my (admittedly oversized) belly. Stupefacente is Italian for, you guessed it, stupefying.

Look, here’s the thing, I’m gonna be honest with you. I’m kinda...unimpressed. Yes, Chef Dario did put less Gorgonzola cheese into the calzone as he wasn’t sure we’d like the strong taste of it, and that’s probably why. The normal calzone is probably a lot punchier on the palate, so I gotta have a round two soon just to be sure.

Other than that, it’s really just a salami pizza that’s been topped with a little extra dough to form the pocket in which the salami, Gorgonzola & mozzarella cheese blend, as well as the tasty tomato sauce reside in peacefully. But the calzone base is exactly the same stellar dough that you find on their pleasant pizzas. That makes all the difference for the calzone, and elevated the pie into a level above.

Oh and if you’re intending to get some photos in, do it quick. The freshly baked dough deflates faster than my will to live.

Much obliged to @piu39_italianpizzabar for the fabulous food, and @burpple for the invite!
