Sushi platters are purpose built for sharing with family & friends, and @takeshisansg aptly named Gathering Sushi Platter ($48++) is a prime example of a superb sushi platter. Thirty pieces of assorted sushi are arrayed on a large wooden platter, ready for a party of two to four folks to devour.⠀

The sushi you get may vary, but the sushi we got on the Gathering Platter were avocado maki (handroll), good ol’ salmon maki, spicy mayo salmon maki, salmon mayo gunkan, tuna mayo gunkan, and a whole Incredible Hulk sushi roll. The avo & both salmon maki were decent, albeit kinda pedestrian, and the both the salmon and tuna mayo gunkan were excellent. However, the undisputed center of attention was the Incredible Hulk sushi roll, and it certainly deserved the limelight.⠀

The chef at Takeshi-San appears to have an affinity for cream cheese as it’s also present in the Incredible Hulk, along with an enormous ebi tempura, unagi (eel), crab-stick and avocado. Unlike the Fireball, the cream cheese didn’t overpower everything else in the Incredible Hulk. Instead, the prime prawn tempura rightfully took centerstage with its snappy freshness and the terrific tempura batter that encased it. The tempura was airy, crunchy and commendably light on the oil, giving the bouncy, plump prawn a charming crispness that was perfect as the core of the sushi roll.⠀

Although the unagi & shredded crab-stick were lost in the cacophony of flavours & textures, they probably aided in beefing up the satisfaction & volume of the Incredible Hulk. The slices of avocado that blanketed the unagi & crab-stick provided that luscious creaminess that bound everything together. ⠀

While the stellar Incredible Hulk is the main reason for you to smash this platter, the accompanying sushi ain’t no slouches either. With a platter this pleasant, it’s no wonder why everyone’s Gathering at Takeshi-San.
