🍴Can easily see why Long Phung is always bustling! This was hearty, affordable Vietnamese street food, and probably amongst the best you can get across the island. We tried 5 dishes, and our reviews for each are below.

Hu tieu bo kho, spicy beef stew noodle soup (4.5⭐️; $7.90), was the overall favourite! The broth was deep and complex - the perfect combination of fat, salt, acid, and a good injection of spicy heat! The fork tender braised beef, silky noodles, and other additions complemented the superstar broth.

Pho tai, rare beef soup (4⭐️; $7.90) was the ultimate comfort bowl for a rainy evening! The thin beef slices were mostly tender (a few chewier oddballs) and paired with soft silky noodles and crunchy beansprouts. But the star was definitely the broth - perfect balance of being beefy and savoury enough whilst still upholding its clean and delicate profile.

Goi cuon, spring rolls (3⭐️; $2/pc) was the most disappointing of the lot. We found the wrapper too tough and thick. The fillings had a tad too much noodles and not enough ingredients and fresh vegetables for our liking. That said, the two sauces - a sour fish sauce and a hoisin-peanut sauce - were good accompaniments for an otherwise pretty bland roll.

Goi xoai, green mango salad (4⭐️; $8.50) was zingy and refreshing! The sauce was punchy with fermented funk, citrus notes, and utterly umami-licious! It was a perfect base for the crunchy shredded green mangoes and chopped peanuts. The addition of shrimp and pork belly was also great for additional protein savouriness.

So huyet xao toi, cockles with garlic (4⭐️; $7.50) were succulent and juicy and accentuated by an appetising garlic sauce. It was a messy affair, but so addictive!

Chai tom, lemongrass prawns (3.5 ⭐️; $8) were fragrant and tasty but a tad oily.

This cosy restaurant doesn’t take reservations and seems to always have a line that unpredictably ebbs and flows. The food arrives almost immediately after ordering though, so a long wait in line shouldn’t be too much of a deterrent!
