It felt like yesterday when I first visited City Donuts at their Telok Ayer space — still remembered ordering their Ondeh Ondeh Donut for dine-in to try, and taking away a myriad of flavours that I didn’t get to have for a friend who was very interested with what I was having and the donuts that they have to offer. Fast forward to today, and City Donuts has expanded their operations with their second outlet at Velocity@Novena Square taking over the former premises of the now-defunct Workspace Espresso Bar there.

While a dine-in area is also available here at their latest outpost, the dine-in area is limited to a bench seatings with three tables attached to it. Flavours available here are pretty similar to the ones that they have at Telok Ayer tho albeit limited when we visited at around 2pm on a weekend, with a constant queue for takeaways for their donuts.

Being one of the few flavours that I have yet to try, the Orh Nee is traditional ring donut that comes encased with a yam paste filling within. I still liked how the bread is all soft, plush and fluffy, yet sturdy; pillowy bread that is dusted with granules of sugar over the top — light, and nothing too overwhelming and without all that grease considering that their donuts here are baked, not fried. The filling within is a smooth and adequately dense paste; satisfyingly earthy from the yam without being particularly sweet. Yet another flavour to add to the list of to-order donuts from here.

Pretty glad to have City Donuts somewhere on the North-South Line on the MRT station; definitely a location more convenient than their Telok Ayer outlet, not to mention that their outlet at Novena also opens on Sunday. It’s impressive to see how they have garnered a following within such a short time; affordable donuts with innovative flavours that gives it a local twist. We congratulate the folks behind City Donuts for the opening of their new space, and wishing them all the best for what is to come!
