Located in the same premises as Genzo, SHŌ is a spot that one would head to only if they are in the know of its existence, being tucked away at the fourth level of the building at 336 River Valley Road which was also formerly Automotive Association Singapore.

Offering pastries over the counter, there is a rather limited selection of either a butter croissant, cheese croissant, Chocolate Twist or a Pizza Twist — the last being the item that got the most attention as we made our orders of shō’s menu. The Pizza Twist comes as a braided bread that is shaped almost identical to a croissant, though definitely more bread than croissant considering how it lacks a flaky, layered and buttered interior and is more like a toasty, crusted bread on the exterior with a fluffy interior. Thought the Pizza Twist was closer to being more of a “Cheese Twist” instead — the insides featuring somewhat of a cream cheese filling that is partly savoury — could probably have brought out the concept better if it features meaty elements such as ham, bacon or pepperoni/salami. Still, a bread that most certainly went well with the Flat White on the side — a cuppa that carried a medium body with a nutty flavour profile; smooth, creamy and well-pulled. The combination of both the Pizza Twist and coffee does work as a great breakfast treat for those who crave heavier, savoury flavours in the morning.

Really liked how Genzo and SHŌ made use of the space here, giving patrons a choice of going for both full meals or just a simple coffee break in just one space — a versatile use of a space that carries very relaxing vibes by the pool. Definitely a hideout that is worth exploring before the crowd hits for both Genzo and SHŌ.
