Bought a voucher for Ash & Elm’s semi-buffet lunch ($30.40++ appetizer & dessert with a choice of main course), but as they were having a full buffet that day, we were allowed to go for the full buffet instead, by paying $10++ to upgrade one of our coupons without the main course to a full buffet. It’s as confusing as it sounds - and the staff didn’t really explain it that well to us, so we were rather puzzled for quite a while.

Notwithstanding their confusing explanation of what we could get, the buffet was decently worth our money and the quality of the food was quite reasonable, considering it’s cheaper than the typical buffet. My favourite dish hands down is their freshly made flatbread (cheese, onions, ham) that comes straight from a pizza oven. The gooeyness of the cheese with the hot tomato purée and the sweet crunch of onions was amazing 🙌🏻

I also enjoyed their dessert section. They have a good variety of ice creams, with original flavours like cinnamon gelato and white chocolate gelato, and familiar ones like dark chocolate gelato, and lemon & lime sorbet. I liked the consistency of the ice cream, because it was on the lighter side and not so creamy, which is great after eating a lot before that. In particular, I loved the pairing of the dark chocolate gelato and this dark chocolate tart (pictured). It was really rich and the tart base was perfectly snappy, but somehow the gelato made it taste not as cloying! I didn’t enjoy the rest of their cakes though.

Apart from this, I didn’t find the appetisers or mains particularly interesting. They tasted quite average, which was a pity. The steak from the self-cutting station was tender, but slightly cold. However, I did like the fact that there was a glass room with 3 different cheese, of which I enjoyed the Brie the most, and some charcuterie.

Overall, it was an alright experience. They have quite nice deco and there are a fair bit of tourists, since Ash & Elm is located on the first floor in Intercontinental Bugis, which is the hotel next to Bugis Junction. Not that sure I would be back, but it was a decent try.
