There’s been lots of shade thrown onto a certain bak kut teh recently, but let’s not forget that we are going to lose a heritage brand of over 40 years in the business.

No matter how the company manages the cash flow and expenditure, it’s all history and in the past. What we need to do is to look ahead on how we can preserve one of our iconic foods and brands that has helped put Singapore in the world map, inviting throngs of tourists into our sunny island and making bak kut teh as a must-eat dish before they leave the country. Coincidentally, I had bak kut teh from Rong Hua over the weekends and though it’s decent, the peppery kick and tenderness of the pork ribs pale into comparison with the one that’s making the headlines.
