I used to frequent this Peranakan family restaurant with my parents during my growing up years and the food here has always been known to be tasty and affordable. The portions are good for 2 to share. Although prices have visibly gone up quite a little , the food remains good. The food served here makes you feel like you are eating at home .

The Ayam goreng (SGD 7.90) is marinated in a secret spice which until today I can't crack the code but it is very aromatic. I would have liked the chicken parts to be chopped up smaller (like how they used to do it in the past) so more of that marination can get into the chicken. Having said that ,the Ayam goreng was still good .
The Nonya chap chye has a flavourful broth and the vegetables are cooked well. Unlike some Nonya vegetables which can be quite greasy , I like ivins's version because it's is very light on the palette and very soothing. Another dish which I particularly enjoy is the Babi pongteh which is cuts of lean pork stewed in a rich brown gravy ( made of fermented beans) until fork tender. You can ask for a small bowl of chicken curry gravy on the side to complement your meal ( if you didn't want to order another chicken dish).
The gravy is so flavourful and has a stronger taste of spices which is much more refreshing than the local curry ( which is usually stronger in coconut taste ). The gravy alone is sufficient for you to head down to ivins . That is how good it is :)
This is one good place for family / group meals because of its cosy / casual setting and pretty affordable prices.
