For those who donβt already know, Onde Onde is a classic Peranakan snack featuring a bite-sized green glutinous rice ball πππ coated with grated coconut π₯₯ & with a liquid gula melaka (palm sugar) centre. I always enjoy that irresistible sweet burst when I bite into this ball of happiness! π€€π€€π€€

This OnDE OnDE cake ($10++) at @babachews really made my DAY! β€ A modern take on the traditional kueh, this rendition features soft & moist pandan sponge cake layered with buttercream & gula melaka (palm sugar). πππ Instead of using desiccated coconut, Baba Chews have coated its cake with fresh coconut flakes π₯₯, which I felt was a good switch as the latter exudes more of the coconutty fragrance & renders a better crunch for layering of texture with the soft cake. π―

Accompanied by fresh strawberries π, blueberries, crunchy buttery crumble & a drizzle of gula melaka syrup, this completes the masterpiece. π On our first bite, this cake screams SWEET, mainly attributable to the palm sugar. However, this does bear a close resemblance to Onde Onde & encompasses all the elements! ππ» Best eaten with the tangy fruits to ease the sugar rush, & definitely good for sharing! ππ»

Certainly ended the meal on a sweet note! π
