I used to make the trek up north to Woodlands Ring Food Centre specially for a bowl of Yan Ji's seafood soup. The rustic food centre has since been demolished and Yan Ji has moved to nearby Marsiling Mall.

The magic is in Yan Ji's seafood broth. Made with pork, chicken and various seafood, each spoonful is full of umani and flavours. A common complaint was that they never gave you enough of their magical broth and left you wanting more.

Yes it's a seafood soup stall but their "meatballs" are equally worthy of mention. I don't think they can be called meatballs per se as they come in thick chunks. Made mainly of minced pork, you can taste distinct chunks of mushroom and dried sole fish which gives it a nice crunch and some earthy and savoury flavours.

This is my first time at their Marsiling Mall stall and it seemed to me that the broth has been watered down. It is a lot less robust, thick and hearty. Though those who felt that the soup was on the "salty" side may prefer the current iteration. It is still a good bowl of seafood soup but I am not sure if I will specially make a trip up north for it.
