Mon Choux is yet another place serving all manner of things sugary and nice, and it just opened up yesterday at the Midtown in Hougang. Unfortunately, they don't do choux puffs as the name would suggest (boooo), but they peddle an aesthetically pleasing array of handmade macaroons, eclairs and Rice Krispie treats instead.

The vanilla Rice Krispie treat (right), is simple yet satisfying to any sugar cravings one might contract. It's incredibly light, airy and it crunches satisfyingly on your teeth when you bite into it. It wasn't as crispy as a granola bar, but I still enjoyed the crisp texture nonetheless. The sugar in the crispy square was well controlled and not overpowering as I would've expected it to be.

The caramel eclair, however, was what stole the show. The beautifully browned caramel layer coated the top of a thin puff pastry shell, and when I bit down into the eclair, the light and slightly sweet cream filling within burst out, bridging the heavier caramel and the airy puff pastry perfectly.

I have to commend Mon Choux's competent control of the amount of glucose in the two sweets that I had. At no point did both the eclair and krispie square ever feel hopelessly diabeetus inducing, and I quite enjoyed myself.
