After head bartender Luke and his team left last year, I was scared to return โ to face the unfamiliar new incarnation of one of my best friends in alcoholism. I'm glad I had the courage to reconnect.

This cocktail ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ, ๐ก๐ผ ๐๐ด๐ด ($25) consisted of cheddar, cream, honey and star anise smoke, and boy did it hit the spot hard. It had a whole gamut of flavours โ sweet, smokey and savoury, with a heavy-hitting spirit base that hid a tinge of spice. Its flavours were eloquently announced on the palate through a mouthfeel that I'd liken to a lightly-creamy soup with hints of starchiness.

Underneath the changes, they still held that familiarly spunky and adventurous spirit. I didn't quite feel the same spark yet, but we're slowing getting reacquainted and I'm confident of rediscovering that original flame we had.
