I had been searching for one of these beautiful creations the whole trip and finally at Nishiki Market in Kyoto came across them!! There weren’t many designs left as it was nearing the end of the day (gone 4pm and the market closes 5pm sharp). I had a hard time choosing but eventually went for this maple leaf 🍁 as it also symbolises our autumn colours honeymoon trip ❤️🧡💛 The flavour was subtle and sweet not flavoured of anything in particular and was soft with a marzipan or soft fudge texture.

Nishiki Market is a foodie dream, I was on cloud nine the whole time and got a little over stimulated!! I bought and tried as much as I could but I was getting seriously sugared out! Stretching for 3-4 blocks on Kyoto’s more modern West Bank, Niseki Market is a really heady mix of local stalls selling both food and beautiful handicraft. Locals and tourists alike mill around the hundreds of food stalls offering a mind-blowing selection of delicious sweet and savoury dishes. Some are more palatable than others...the less tempting included baby octopus 🐙 “lollipops”, stuffed with quail eggs and skewers of sparrow, each stick with 2-3 barbecued whole birds, which were defeathered but apart from that were completely intact and recognisable 🤨
