Each set consists of a bowl of Wagyu Sukiyaki Gyudon, Mentaiko Hokkaido Oysters, Torched Mentai Hokkaido Scallops, and a choice of house wine/beer.
We started off with the fresh oysters which were drenched in shoyu, dashi, scallions, and drizzled with mentaiko sauce. One would expect the freshness of the oyster to be masked by the amount of sauce, but it was not overpowering at all as I could still distinctly grasp the taste of the sea. The mentaiko scallops were drizzled with mentaiko and garnished with tobiko and scallions as well. The cold dishes were a good start before moving on to the main courses ☺
I am so glad to have made the decision to top up (+$7) for an upgrade to their Signatured Torched Mentaiko Wagyu Don. The meat was beautifully seared and tender to the bite. I love how it was grilled to the right char with a tinge of smokiness. I always believe that a good runny onsen egg is the ingredient which makes or breaks a dish, and indeed this did not fail my expectations. The creaminess of the egg, mixed with the juicy chunks of beef and pearly white rice, soon became a melting bowl of glorious goodness. Without a doubt, the creamy mentaiko added a whole new depth to the dish. If it was not for the fact that the mentaiko seemed to be carelessly slathered over the beef chunks, I would have considered this bowl to be a perfect execution. It might have been better if they gave more sauce to complement the beef.

The house red wine added a nice finish to the meal. It was smooth, firm and complements really well with the beef! We love the ambience at the Marina One outlet as it was dimly lit and cozy, absolutely perfect for a date night ☺
