Hvala just released a limited edition new flavour with 3x more matcha powder than their regular matcha °3. Overall, the scoop was smooth and creamy, at a matcha intensity that met our expectations of being “gao” without being too astringent. It was served atop hojicha crumble that provided an enjoyable textural contrast, although having it only at the bottom resulted in a dry finish. Perhaps some sprinkling on top/ in the middle might have worked better! Additionally, we found one cup distinctively more creamy than the other which was more icy.

So the most important question... is it worth $12.70 with GST? Definitely on the pricier side but perhaps still worth a try, especially if you’re a hardcore matcha fan like us. It still isn’t close to our favourite tsujiri honten, but given that this Japanese pop up is not returning anytime soon, this is a decent substitute for intense matcha cravings 🙂

⚠️ Available for a limited time only. The staff couldn’t give clear indications of when this ends, but it’ll be around for the next few weeks at least ☺️
