Made a visit to Hvala for their varying intensities of matcha ice-cream available here. No sampling is allowed for the ice-creams here, but was informed that the Matcha°1 is already more “matcha” than most matcha ice-creams out there. The Matcha°2 reminds me of Tsujiri Honten’s version in a scoop; deep and bitter notes of the aroma of the tea — albeit denser than the soft-serve that Tsujiri Honten serves up in terms of texture, but the level of intensity is pretty similar. It does kill off the notes of the Singapore Oolong slightly; a milky and creamy scoop of ice-cream that finishes off with a tea fragrance and a slight sweetness. To be honest, I wasn’t impressed with Hvala CHIJMES from my first visit, but that’s pretty much reversed now that I have left the doors being pretty impressed with their ice-cream. Would most certainly return for the other flavours, including the Matcha°3 (the most intense Matcha ice-cream here) another day.
