They say imitation is the best form of flattery. This probably explains the wave of eateries specialising in Din Tai Fung-style egg fried rice island-wide following the success of King of Fried Rice.

Mr Egg Fried Rice is one of the newest contenders to KoFR's throne. Similar to KoFR, you get to choose from 4 different types of fried rice (the original, tobiko, tomyum and xo scallop) and several toppings (pork chop, chicken chop, luncheon meat, prawns or salmon cubes). Priced between $5 to $10, its slightly pricier than your regular kopitiam option but not by much. As each plate is made to order, you can expect up to an hour wait during the peak dining hours.

Unlike their competitors, Mr Egg cooks their egg fried rice over an induction cooker instead of a gas stove (cue: Uncle Roger's haiyaaaaah) which will explain why their rice lacks the wokhei oomph. Their rice also on the drier side and lacks flavour.

Their pork chop is also on the thinner side. It is kinda dry and could use more marinade. I had to give their chilli a miss that day as I had a bad case of ulcers but my mum said it isn't too bad.

Mr Egg Fried Rice is a miss for me but I may just give them a try again when I have the craving and the queue is a little shorter.
