The Omakase journey as its name suggested was one inspired by the Nanyang origins. We could list each dish by familiar names such as 茶葉蛋 (tea leaf egg), 皮蛋粥 (century egg congee), 叉燒肉 (Char Siew Pork) and 荷葉飯 (lotus leaf glutinous rice). Simple as each may sound but the complexity and amount of efforts put into re-inventing them were impressive.
This 茶葉蛋 was the 1st course to our meal and it was a beautiful combination of a perfect yolk, mushrooms and fried Gingko nuts, doused in a Pu-er broth. Balanced, pleasant and delicious it was with the subtle reminder of inspiration behind it.
Much as we were wowed by surprises when each dish was served, we also felt connected through the sincere and passionate services from the crew. Their friendliness kept us engaged as they made efforts to explain each dish that added meanings to how we appreciated them more.
So yes, a big thank you to each and every of the friendly crew in front or behind the counter top, b’cos you guys redefined the Nanyang journey we came to embark on.
