Tuan Yuan is an off-shoot of my favourite bak kut teh shop, Outram Park Ya Hua Bak Kut Teh, at the PSA Building.

Like Ya Hua, Tuan Yuan serves the peppery and not the herbal style of BKT. I like that their soup base is robust and less oily. Unlike their competitors, I don't get thirsty or feel super bloated after having several bowls of soup. I will be covering more about this in the next post.

Tuan Yuan also serves teochew-style steamed fish. I like that it was fresh and tender. The sweet and sour accompanying condiments elevated the natural sweetness of the threadfin fish.

I absolutely love their freshly fried youtiao. Crispy on the outside and yet doughy on the inside. It is excellent both on its own and with the soup.

Tuan Yuan is kinda pricey than its competitors (and Ya Rou) but for the quality of the food, I will be back for sure.
