My expectations were high, in light of David Yip’s reputation, the favourable reviews from respected critics, and the reaction from our guest when perusing the menu on arrival “Oh, these are dishes I haven’t tasted since childhood!” Regretfully, I was a bit disappointed. We had many of the signature dishes - golden coin chicken, fried milk, plum-flavoured duck, sweet & sour lard, duck fat rice, etc. The dishes are indeed unusual, but overall they are too sweet and too fatty. Besides curious customers, or those older ones on a melancholy trip, would this cuisine attract enough health-conscious customers for repeat visits?
