Modernizing the traditional Korean Street snack, Samjin Amook, the popular Korean Fishcake chain from Busan has recently opened its first and only international outlet at ION Orchard B4. So since I was in the area I had to check it out! Spotting a “bakery-style” concept, the takeaway store is pretty small but carries a good variety. Packed with people when I was there in the early evening, they do fortunately replenish the eomuk pretty frequently.

Hence not knowing where to start, I just stuck to the non-spicy signatures. And surprisingly by pairing Korean fishcakes with various ingredients, the resulting items were all pretty distinct in taste. First off, I would recommend the Amook Croquettes. Stuffed with sweet potato, the Sweet Potato Amook Croquette ($2.30) was a good balance of sweet and savoury, crispy and soft. Deep-fried to perfection, the appealing breadcrumb crusted exterior encasing the bouncy-soft amook and potato mash was two-thumbs up. I also enjoyed the Bacon Dog ($2.80) as you just can’t go wrong with a long strip of smokey bacon wrapped and surrounding the savoury firm fishcake stick. And if those two mentioned above didn’t destroy your diet plan, you should certainly try Samjin Amook’s Goblin’s Mace ($3.50). A winning combination especially for the kid in me, the generous layer of diced potato coupled with amook and sausage within was substantial and a potatoes lover’s dream come true.

Overall a tad greasy but really flavourful.
