Picked up a loaf of the Walnut & Fig Sourdough last Sunday! For $5, it’s quite a pricey little loaf. But everything at Micro Bakery is made in small batches and with lots of care.

Like most European loaves, this sourdough is really crusty on the exterior, but has a really satisfying crunch when you pull it apart and the dark bread gives. I love how pillowy soft the bread is on the inside. As with all the breads at Micro, this is a sourdough bake, so it does have a distinct sourish taste. However, the walnut and fig sourdough is great for those who don’t fancy the sourness, but want to enjoy a healthier bread option as the whole figs inside provide a natural sweetener to offset the sour tang of the dough. It’s lovely to bite into a chewy fig piece. With its crunchy seeds, there’s just so many different textures in this one bread that you won’t get bored of it. I didn’t taste much of the walnuts, perhaps they were chopped a little too small, but they did add a little nutty flavour to the loaf which was pleasant. Worth picking up a loaf from Micro Bakery if you’re in the area - just go check out what they have for the day!
