Newly Opened Fish Head Steamboat & Sliced Fish Soup #01-27. They attracted a huge crowd on their first week of opening (9 Sep) as they had a huge stall and bright signboards. You could see many tables with the steamboat (they are the only stall to serve the dish in Marsiling Mall) so we decided to give it a try as well!

So it’s been almost 3 weeks since their grand opening and we noticed that the number of tables with the steamboat has dropped significantly and.. we might know the reason why.

First of all, this steamboat was $32. It was for 2 pax and the stall owner assured us that there were plenty of ingredients, sufficient for 2pax. When it arrived, there were only 3 ingredients – red grouper fish head slices, Chinese cabbage and yam. Ok 4 if you count the soup. No tomato slices, no other vegetables, just the 3 ingredients mentioned. If we wanted more ingredients, we had to top up (a few more dollar for each ingredient) and the price of the steamboat would have went up.

Soup was so bland... and had the fishy taste. I don’t think they put in ginger slices to get rid of the fishy smell so it was quite hard for us to finish the soup. We understand that red grouper is not cheap, but the meat was so tough and dry. Not sure if it’s the way they cooked or the freshness of the fish, but it was not good.

Overall it was such a disappointing meal. $32 for a whole steamboat of bland and fishy soup, with so little ingredients :(
