Thai Baang has opened a new outlet at Orchard Xchange so yay for all the bread lovers! Unfortunately, I’ve visited about 5 times and their selection of breads are dismal compared to the Kitchener Complex stall. I could never get my hands on the curry chicken bread which I really really love. However, thanks to that, I tried the Swiss Rolls from Thai Baang! There are a few selections available in the fridge - black sesame, chocolate, coffee and pandan kaya all sold in boxes of three extremely thick slices ($5 each). They’re all open for sampling and so you don’t have to be shy, they even cut large chunks for the samples which is very generous of them.

Out of all the flavours, I was pleasantly surprised that I actually liked the black sesame the most as I’m usually a ‘head straight for the chocolate!!’ person. I found the chocolate one a little bland and boring, but the black sesame Swiss roll had a nice flavour and visual contrast between the moist roll cake and the black sesame spread - of which the nutty flavour really came through. Note that the Swiss rolls at Thai Baang are not as fluffy or light as usual, they are very much on the dense side, but I love them anyway because they’re flavourful and not dry. Great item to pick up instead of the bread if they don’t have the flavours you want (which is most of the time imo).
