Opted for the matcha set, which much to my pleasant surprise, came with a charcoal swissroll embedded with matcha flavoured cream instead of a a matcha flavoured cake which I was expecting. The set also comprises of shiratama (with kuromitsu sauce), matcha warabi mochi, matcha softserve (comprising of toasted rice puffs within for an additional crunch factor) and hot ichiban tea. IMO the swiss roll would have fared better if it was less dry and fluffier, with a more distinct matcha flavour in the smooth cream filling as it was barely detectable. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the remaining components, typically the softserve (as usual) with its distinct earthy flavour and fragrance, along with a pleasant lingering albeit subtle bitter undertone. Even my dining partner who’s usually not a fan of matcha enjoyed it! ✨ The matcha warabi mochi is soft, chewy, adorned with an exterior coating of matcha powder that enhanced its umami, earthy flavour. The ichiban tea served as a great palate cleanser and detoxifying agent, a clear Japanese green tea tea with a subtle umami note. Complimentary hot water refill is also provided upon request. Wonder if all Swiss roll for the sets are charcoal flavoured? 🤔 Perhaps I shall try the houjicha one next? 😉
