This is a not-so-hidden gem judging from the long waiting time and crowd once it starts to turn dark and the fish head steamboat emerges at around 5pm. A unique Jekyll and Hyde situation but you have definitely got to try at least once and I will promise you that you will keep returning. Relatively inexpensive with the smallest pot at $25 for the sea bream, this is one of the long standing steamboats that still uses charcoal instead of the usual gasoline. As a result, you can detect the smokey aroma with every slurp and the flavour is further accentuated with the fish bones and dried sole fish (ti po) as it adds a natural sweetness and umami-ness into the broth. They do have several appetizers such as preserved vegetables, braised meat, braised eggs and braised beancurd puffs (tau pok) to keep you occupied before the actual star of the show arrives.
