I arrived with enough apprehension and a healthy dose of skepticism, not knowing what to expect of this hawker burger stall I’ve heard so much about; and I left with my heart full and tummy utterly satisfied. I’m not in the least bit exaggerating when I say this humble little stall shames even some of the bigger burger restaurants around Singapore. We had this Smoked Dried Chipotle and Guacamole ($10.90) with cheese ($1): not exactly hawker prices, but very reasonable considering the ingredients and quality. What you’re looking at is a kickass juicy beef patty, grilled over a charcoal fire till it’s a lovely medium with a beautiful smokey char on the outside; some smoked chipotle peppers (very much like regular peppers packing a slight punch); tomato; a smear of guacamole; alfalfa sprouts; and fabulously toasted brioche buns. It’s delicious, it’s hearty, it’s packed with such smokiness from the grill — it’s basically everything a good burger should be. There’re a few things I can pick at of course (not a fan of the store-bought potato chips on the side as well as alfalfa sprouts, I’ve never liked them they’re so redundant in a dish), but I can promise you that you won’t leave this stall feeling anything less than satisfied.
