Mentaiko mayo gyoza [$6.90++]
.
With the ongoing Mentaiko madness at @shokutsuten , Menichi ramen had also joined in the bandwagon and launched Mentaiko ramen as well as gyoza in addition to their existing menu. REAL Mentaiko pieces are used in the ramen (swipe to view), which is slightly spicy with a pungent umami flavour that might be an acquired experience. Unfortunately it was hard to dissolve these lumps of spicy cod roe into the broth and tbh, I did not really enjoy it when consumed in silo. The tonkotsu broth is simmered with both chicken and pork bones which was rather mild and bland for my liking. The other elements were still decent though- tender, meaty char siu, crunchy black fungus and red ginger strips, crispy seaweed and a half boiled egg with a vibrant half cooked yolk (which could have been softer and more runny). The ramen noodles were done to a slight al dente texture, with a pleasant firmness to the bite, though a pity the broth turned out to be less flavourful as expected. The highlight here to me was the Mentaiko mayo gyozas, where the gyozas are done to a crisp pan fried exterior encasing flavourful, juicy minced chicken, drizzled with creamy Mentaiko mayo that was enhancement with its pleasant umami note .

[PS: Heard that this seasonal special is only available till 4th June, which ends today. But fret not, there’s still an ongoing Mentaiko madness for other chains such as Tokyo water, Kabe No Ana etc] .
