Thought it would be good to make the 127 Lorong 1 Toa Payoh Food Centre the first place to visit right after the official opening of the Thomson-East Coast Line, considering how the food centre is just a short walk away from Caldecott MRT Station.

Found ourselves reaching the market fairly early and thought it would be great to have an item that is great for breakfast — have seen a few articles that have featured Pure Soya Bean and decided to give them a go. Apart from the usual soya bean milk and beancurd, Pure Soya Bean also does carry some inventive versions such as a Chendol Soya Milk, as well as Kellogg’s Fruit Loops Beancurd.

Went for the Kellogg’s Blueberry with Almond Beancurd, since soy beancurd has always been more of a breakfast item to me and the addition of cereal/cornflakes was definitely in-tune with how we were there for breakfast. Whilst the usual soy beancurd here will come with sugar syrup (which is surprisingly balanced in terms of sweetness), the Kellogg’s Blueberry with Almond Beancurd comes without the sugar syrup; instead, the soy beancurd is topped with soy milk and then topped over with the Kellogg’s Blueberry with Almond cereal. There is no denying how this comes pretty comforting — the combination being pretty similar to milk with cereal with a slight switch-up of soy milk instead, while the house-made soy beancurd here comes so silken and soft; fits those who likes having soy beancurd, but would prefer to have it unsweetened, considering the only hints of sweetness comes from the cereal sprinkled atop.

It is always heartening to see entrepreneurs just like the ones behind Pure Soya Bean being part of the F&B scene in Singapore — folks that have the passion for the craft; folks who do not mind those long hours; and folks who constantly put in the effort to make their very own offerings by hand to achieve what they feel is their best product with a dash of modernity. With the convenience of the new Thomson-East Coast Line, perhaps Pure Soya Bean is a spot that I would revisit again for those days I am craving for a beancurd breakfast.
