Now, I’m not a fan of putting alcohol into anything — like, really anything. Not my desserts, not my juices (when I do have whiskey I like mine neat or on the rocks), and certainly not in my coffee. So when Fangkoasked me to try their bottled whiskey coffee drinks, I was more than a little apprehensive. I admit to flinching even before the drinks hit my tongue…only to suddenly widen my eyes in surprise. And if you know me and how small my eyes are, trust me they went 👀 These, were bloody fantastic. The Mr Haku (latte with hakushu) was insanely creamy, with the whiskey fragrance kicking in right at the start but melding into a very mellow sort of sweetness that’s distinctive of Japanese whiskeys. The alcohol’s discernible for sure, but it’s not overwhelming and was super easy to drink. The Lady Val, made with Kavalan classic, was a lot stronger, sweeter, and also nuttier. I love my Kavalan and I’ll tell y’all its sweet, smooth yet smoky profile truly shines in this drink. One sip and I was like “oh this is DEFINITELY Kavalan”. I’d say their Mr Haku’s like a very neat spiked cold brew, while Lady Val’s for the alcoholics who gotta pretend they drink coffee too 🙃

You can customize your spiciness from level 1 all the way to 12, and the weakness in me was already sweating from the heat with level 3. Let’s start off with the Indomie, which was undoubtedly the king of instant noodles, and I suspect its probably two to three packets of noodles on this plate, which has been nicely tossed and coated with the flavourful sauce, paired with the spicy smash chicken and a perfectly cooked egg. As sinful it might be, this is a very comforting plate of chicken noodles. The other dish that we ordered was the Nasi Lemak Ayam Berempah ($10), which comes with a fried chicken leg with blue pea coconut rice, ikan bilis, fried egg, sambal and keropok. What stands out from this dish has got to be the aromatic coconut infused rice. Will I be back? Most definitely. What’s there not to like about Indomie and fried chicken?

Just a few minutes away from Clarke Quay MRT Station, @fangkocoffee is a cosy café to chillax and enjoy a fusion of both Indonesian & Western flavours that you may be craving for! And of course, you’ve to pair your food up with some of their specialty coffee such as Gula Melaka Kopi, Avocado Coffee, Whiskey Coffee & Jamaica Rhum.🤩

Featured are some of their recommendations!

👉Smash Chicken w Blue Pea Flower Rice (spicy smash level 0-12)
📝If you’re in Team 小辣 like myself, get ready to be “destroyed”🥵, even at Level 3. Comes with a generous portion of tasty smash chicken that packs a fiery punch, there is a perfect harmony of crunchy skin and succulent meat, which makes every mouthful so satisfying. Their fluffy blue and white rice wasn’t greasy at all and super fragrant too. If I gone for Level 1 instead, I’d have wiped my plate clean.🙈

👉Beer Chicken w Fries
📝Perfect for those who can’t handle the heat but love fried chicken! Well-coated in a savoury and sweet sauce that also had a slight hint of spice, their crispy beer chicken kinda reminded me Korean Fried Chicken, in a good way.

👉Mr Haku
📝A marriage of Latte & Hakushu. It’s actually my first time trying Whiskey Coffee and fortunately, it didn’t disappoint. Great for alcoholics in need of a coffee fix.😉

👉Gula Melaka Kopi
📝Coffee with homemade brown sugar! I like that it wasn’t too sweet with the welcoming bitter notes from the espresso.

💌Thank you @fangkocoffee for having me!☺️

Been following @chocolatetbasil’s recommendations pretty closely recently and lucky me, @fangkocoffee is just a stone’s throw away from the office. Was expecting great things from this and boy did this plate deliver an EXPLOSION of flavours! The shredded smashed chicken is tender and coated in a spicy mix of crazy tasty chilli paste and little crispy bits (which might be the chicken skin?). You can also choose the heat level; called Spicy Smash Level, ranging from 0-12. I kinda overestimated myself and went for 5, which had me profusely sweating between gulps of their creamy cold brew and spicy chimken. But hey, if suffering is this yummeh, then sign me right back up. 🥵

I recently checked out FANGKO+, an Indo-western cafe located along Hongkong Street (opposite Clarke Quay Mrt). The cafe has a nice decor with fairy lights, and the pricing for their food and drinks are really affordable!

I really liked the Smash Chimken, which was really crispy, addictive and filled with lots of heat! You get to choose your preferred spiciness level of the smash chimken, which ranges from level 1 to 12! Level 6 was just nice for me, maybe I’ll try level 12 the next time! You can even customise your chimken to pair with Indomie or Blue Pea Rice etc.

That’s all I gotta say. Well not really, but tl;dr that’s my sentiments towards FANGKO’s Smash Chimken with Rice ($7). I took my first bite, paused, took another, then proceeded to mass text all my indo friends saying “dudes y’all gotta try this it’s some badass shit.” That’s how impressed I was. You can choose your spice level from 0-12 — we got 5, and I’ll tell you it packed a solid kick. Not the my-tongue-is-dead-I’m-tearing sorta spicy, but enough for me to consistently reach for my iced coffee. Now that smashed chicken (basically what I figure to be shredded and re-fried fried chicken): a good ratio of skin to meat so you get crispy charred bits of skin in each bite, and really tender, tasty chicken. It’s simple, nothing ingenious; but it’s very well-executed, super hearty and satisfactory. Suffice to say I went at it after my first bite, not noticing I was nearing my last till it was all gone 🥲
