Reviews

From the Burpple community

Truly a hidden gem as suggested by all the other reviews. Not sure if it’s the virus situation or what, we were the only customers on a Saturday night :/

This sea bass was so well executed and I loved the slight twist to the dish which was the shellfish bisque that was really tasty. The potato also I believed had strands of crabmeat hidden so fine, can’t really see it but can feel the texture is a bit different.

Also ordered the very addictive truffle fries, sautéed spinach with tomatoes and tender and well marinated brick chicken. Must say that for a small restaurant, the number of side dishes offered is very substantial. Saw a couple more that I wanted to try like the broccoli and sweet potato fries, till the next visit then! Keep going, we have to support small establishments in the west like this!

It’s located not within Ayer Rajah community centre, but the building beside. Got a little lost trying to locate it.

The Steak and Fries - The lean beef which was lightly dusted with salt was so flavourful.

Crispy Brown Rice Crusted Salmon, Seafood Miso Tamarind Broth infused with Dried Chili, Daikon, Bamboo Shoot, Braised Eggplant, Leek Tempura. From FarmAppetit; a new establishment which had taken over the former premises of KEK Seafood Pandan Gardens.

Serving up pretty much Western fare with their very own twist, this item comes with a Japanese influence and a very slight local twist. Really enjoyed the Seafood Miso Tamarind Broth; a savoury and light broth that was pretty clean in terms of flavour and easy to have — went well with the flavours of the salmon which was fresh and came with a brown rice crust that gives it a good crunch. Other items such as the Daikon provides a soft bite, while the bamboo shoot gives a crunch; the Leek Tempura also giving a good bite whilst being crisp and all. Pretty liked how this dish was just something that warms up the heart; very clean notes yet with a variety of textures. A little pricey considering the neighbourhood it is located at, but a place that is certainly a hard find in this area of Singapore.

In its place now is a Western cafe/restaurant. It was completely empty, which made me a little hesitant to try it (cos typically no customers= not nice). Googled for some reviews but could hardly find anything, but eventually decided to take the plunge to try it out of hunger haha. This fortunately turned out to be a good decision! The food tasted as good as they look in the photos. The meat of the Whole Grilled Snapper had a firm texture (which I like) and its sauce was tasty. It was also nice that its portion was big, which made it great for sharing. The steak (of the Steak and Fries) was nicely cooked and there was nothing to complain about (for the price at least). The star of the night had to be the fries though. It was superrrr crispy (I really dunno how they made it that crispy) and we polished it off even though it was not soaked in any fancy truffle oil. If u’re fan of skinny fries, I’m pretty sure u would enjoy this! Rather satisfied with this hidden find and I really do think they deserve better business (in case u’re wondering, nope I’m not paid to say this hahaha). If u’re in the area, do pop by to give it a try!
Prices are in the menu in photos 3 and 4.
