Those whom are living around the Ang Mo Kio area may have probably heard about Fat Boss Waffles and Ice-Cream for quite some time — these folks have been in operation for a while at least for the past couple of years. Whilst it www a stall that we had wanted to visit for a while, its location at Blk 407 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 had always felt a little bit out of the beaten path for us. These folks had previously expanded their operations with a second outlet sometime back; the concept of which was named Skillet by Fat Boss, and operated out of a shop unit within Northpoint City — this outlet had since ceased operations for a while during the writing of this post. While Fat Boss Waffles and Ice-Cream is technically an establishment that focuses on their waffles and ice-cream offerings, the folks at Fat Boss Waffles and Ice-Cream had pretty much included quite a wide variety of items in their menu since its initial days of operations; there is now a hot food menu that surprisingly centres around Korean cuisine — think main courses such as Ginseng Chicken Soup that features a full chicken thigh, as well as Stir-fried Bulgogi Chicken / Beef amongst others. Also available would be a variety of Korean Snacks like the Corndog, though Fat Boss Waffles and Ice-Cream also serves up a local breakfast all-day which includes Curry Chicken with Baguette / Rice / Noodle and Kaya Butter Toast as well. Beverages available at Fat Boss Waffles and Ice-Cream includes Nanyang-style Kopi & Teh, as well as a range of Korean beverages, tea and soda — just to name a few.

There was a period of time where we actually wanted to make a visit to Fat Boss Waffles and Ice-Cream back when they had just opened its doors to give their ice-cream and waffles a try — some time has since lapsed when we had felt that way. The reason why our interest with Fat Boss Waffles and Ice-Cream having reignited again is their offering of the Fat Boss Chendol — a new item which had only been introduced to their menu, and also one which Fat Boss Waffles and Ice-Cream had been posting about in their social media accounts recently. Those whom have passed by Fat Boss Waffles and Ice-Cream’s shopfront would have noticed how they have claimed that the Fat Boss Chendol is being made from “100% hand-squeezed Pandan juice”, with “no additional preservatives or colouring” and “freshly made”. There is no description on what elements come with the Fat Boss Chendol, though it is noted that the item comes with red bean, Gula Melaka, Chendol Jelly, shaved ice and coconut cream. Digging straight into the Fat Boss Chendol, first impressions of the Fat Boss Chendol was how it seem to have come with pretty premium ingredients — the coconut cream certainly was rich, and the Gula Melaka does carry an evident note of sweetness without being overly so; we did wish that there was slightly more of it to go around the shaved ice, for how it did felt a little watered down as we went through the entire bowl. Our favourite element here is no doubt the Chendol Jelly however; there is a very profound note of Pandan that was especially evident here, though we wished for the jelly to be slightly harder to carry some form of bite — they felt a little lacking of texture and felt more like lumps of curdled coconut cream in some occasion. For those whom like red bean with a bit of bite, the red beans included in the Fat Boss Chendol was just that; seem to focus more on the earthy note rather than to provide a sweetness to the chendol. Overall, a pretty competent Chendol offering that is of a rather good quality that can be well-matched against that of Chendol specialty stalls around.

If there was one thing that we had to mention about or trip to Fat Boss Waffles and Ice-Cream, perhaps the most impressive thing about the establishment would be the price tag of which the dishes are all being priced at. While we note that the Korean fare are priced slightly higher than the local cuisine on their menu, we were fairly astounded to learn that the price of our meal — inclusive of the Curry Chicken with Baguette, Chendol and Kopi was charged at $10.10 all-in; definitely a steal especially when it might only be a single dish that one can get at that price point if dining in the food courts / coffee shops in the Central Business District. Truth to be told, the other items that we have had were not shabby either; the Curry Chicken with Baguette definitely had an old-school touch to it — not very profound with the flavours of the various spices, though still especially flavoursome and works very well with the baguette which soaks up all of that goodness. The curry itself carried a moderate level of spiciness; enough to tickle the tastebuds, while those with a lower tolerance to spiciness might actually find this fiery. The chicken was served with bone-in; still came with quite a good portion of meat that was fall-off-the-bone tender — very easy to have. The Kopi was also decent; priced at just $0.90 for the hot variant, we couldn’t even complain — most of Singapore’s coffeeshops / hawker stalls / food courts would not be able to match up with the price. With food that is served at cafe quality at a competent price point which can be even lower than that of neighbouring eateries, Fat Boss Waffles and Ice-Cream is that rare breed of establishments that seems to be more for the community around it — one that ensures affordability for the community surrounding it whilst not scrimping on quality. A spot not to be missed for their non ice-cream and waffle offerings especially for those whom are located around the neighbourhood; one that definitely deserves some support!

A neighbourhood ice cream place at Ang Mo Kio’s Teck Ghee Square, serving not just ice cream but also waffles and foods.

They don’t have much seatings indoor, so mostly are outdoors seats. Choose your flavours from the display that you can see from outside.

The chocolate mint of course comes with hint of mint taste and also chocolate bites.

Recently they also start serving proper foods here as well.

I'm going to begin by saying, the pulat hitam ice cream is amazing. It tasted as if I was eating a creamy version of the asian dessert with all the flavours of black glutinous rice and coconut present.

I also found the waffles to be perfectly cooked as well, neither too soft nor too hard. I also enjoyed the fact that they didn't unnecessarily coat their waffles in icing sugar or maple/golden syrup, which allowed the flavours of the ice cream to shine.

The texture of the ice cream was very luxurious as well; creamy, thick and doesn't melt too fast. It should be said that the chocolate fudge ice cream was rather average but still nice overall.

The store also had a nice little gesture which allowed patrons to pay it forward for elderly members to enjoy free ice cream on Wednesdays.

Overall, it was a nice neighborhood ice cream store that I will recommend visiting, especially if you're in the area or live in Ang Mo Kio.

New ice cream spot in the AMK neighborhood! Their single scoops are $3.50 and there’s a top up of $1 for the premium flavours. This spot caught our eye cause of their cool big selection of flavours that rotate daily. They had flavours like Matcha Kit Kat, Mai Pian Cereal, SoyaBean Dough Fritter, Salted Caramel Popcorn, etc.

Ricotta Cheese with Pistachio was immediately our first pick! The pistachio was more of the additional topping and not so much incorporated in the base. Would have liked the cheese to be more distinct, but we did enjoy the creamy texture of the scoop, so we’re surely coming back to try the other flavors with their waffle.

The owner and service staff were super friendly! Apart from desserts, they serve a number of drinks and even viet drip coffee.
