You might know this colonial building in Bukit Damansara, but you may not recognise its drastic transformation. Now, it wears a fresh coat of paint and is filled with lush plants and natural light thanks to a brand new sky roof. This hot new F&B enclave should already be on your radar. From a brand new cafe by the Serai Group to another excellent cocktail bar by the brains behind PS150 and a unique coffee and cocktail experience by VCR and Karl (from Omakase + Appreciate), here’s what to discover in Republik!
Brunch at Blonde (G.03A)
On the ground floor sits this stunning cafe. Blonde is the latest brainchild by Serai Group that also owns Serai and Jibby & Co. With its pastel pink walls, gold highlights and pops of marble, it’s a pretty place with great food — perfect for indulgent brunches. Dig into the All Day Breakfast (RM36), a big plate filled with sourdough, maple beef bacon, grilled chicken sausage, sauteed kale and more. Also share the Summer Salad (RM38), an ice plant-based salad with flavourful blue swimmer crab. Burppler Serena Ho dubs this the most delicious salad she’s ever had!
Coffees, Cocktails & Coffee Cocktails at Happy Stan (M.06)
Nestled on the first floor is this sleek bar brought to life by the brilliant minds behind VCR and Karl of Omakase+Appreciate. Coffee to perk up your mornings and afternoons, and cocktails whenever you feel like it, HappyStan will cater to your needs. The strong Long Black (RM10) will provide a great caffeine jolt, but if 2pm is too late for coffee, what about a cocktail instead? Happy Stan’s small but excellent cocktail menu is ready for orders from 8am! Try the La Paloma (RM38), a refreshing concoction of Espolon Blanco (tequila), Three Cents grapefruit soda, fresh lime and salt.
A Spicy Thai Feast at Krung Thep (G.05)
It’s dinner time! Make your way to the ground floor and find this swanky Thai restaurant. Grab a good friend, sit by the bar along the open kitchen and watch all the magic happen.The food is great for sharing and some must-orders include the Sai Auo Gek (smoked lamb sausages, RM16), Gai Yang Kao Suan Kwang (grilled Ipoh kampung chicken, RM42) and the spicy and creamy Geng Pua Bai Chapluu (southern Thai yellow crab curry, RM62), best had with a bowl of Thai Jasmine Rice (RM5).
A Final Night Cap at Tickets (G.05)
Your belly is full and the night is still young, so how about another drink? This cocktail bar sits right next to Krung Thep, and is the latest venture by Petaling Street’s PS150. What’s fun about this place is that the cocktail programme changes annually. At the moment, all drinks are tequila and mezcal-focused. Order the signature Mezcal Fix (RM40) for a great introduction to the world of mezcal. For something with more punch, sip on the Rags To Riches (RM38), a twist on a classic Old Fashioned that marries mezcal and tequila in perfect harmony.
