Bites and Rides: A Match Made In Marina Bay Carnival

Our take on the city’s biggest carnival of yet, are these exhilarating pairings of rides with bites.

We’ve been hearing a lot about Prudential’s Marina Bay Carnival and how the rides will send thrill seekers into a dizzying high. But if you’re anything like us at Burpple, the food’s just as important as the fun and all we want in life is a perfect balance of both. So our take on the city’s biggest carnival of yet, are these exhilarating pairings of rides with bites. Whether you’re up to coddle a bucket of wings as you watch your friends get thrown 55 metres up in the air, or to sink your teeth into a burger after a gut-wrenching coaster ride, this is exactly what you come to a carnival for: thrills and tummy fills.

Meet these bites to go with the rides at Marina Bay Carnival!

Life’s A Roller Coaster
Bows & Ties’ Beef Burger + Euro Coaster

Zip through the carnival on their only roller coaster ride. It’s a classic that never gets old, giving you just enough twists and turns to resemble the ups and downs of life. And like in real life, the reward for living it up is sometimes…  a burger. In this case, it is Bows & Ties’ Beef Burger with a handsomely thick beef patty, melted cheese and an oozy egg yolk, all sandwiched between soft, pillowy buns.

Merry Go Round
The 6ixs’ Rosti + Das Fun Schiff

German for ‘The Pirate Ship’, Das Fun Schiff sends riders into a pendulum-like side to side motion and just when you least expect it, the ship goes full circle. It’s a cheesy surprise that reminds us of The 6ixs’ (also) cheesy and perfectly round Rostis — seared to a crisp on the outside, and absolutely warm and tender within. The same way we can never choose between sitting on the left or right side of the ship, the choice between a rosti topping of smoked salmon or smoked duck has us wavering everytime. (Hint: It doesn’t really matter where you sit, and never say no to smoked duck).

Fry High
Katoshka’s Special Cheese Fries + Star Flyer

A five-minute walk away from the Bayfront, The Promontory is where you’ll find The Star Flyer — a supersized version of the childhood swing ride. As it ascends the 35-metre high tower, you’ll find time to appreciate Marina Bay’s beautiful skyline, or close your eyes and envision eating the dream that is Katoshka’s Double-Fried Russet Fries. That, and every drop of its finger-lickin’ good, umami-packed special cheese sauce.

On The Ball
Hyde & Co’s Fried Milk + Roll A Ball

You want to win a pug. We want to win a pug. Solely for that adorable plush pug prize, this carnival game is the one to beat. But we’ll be honest, rolling a ball with the exact strength and accuracy to rack up over 150 points? We have our work cut out for us. Thankfully, Hyde & Co’s little balls of creamy, custardy Fried Milk will sweeten the effort. These babies are a tad rough around the edges, but they’re topped with rainbow sprinkles that almost make them as cute as those pugs we so badly want.

Monsters Inc.
Sofnade’s Chicken Wings + Mach 5

We’ve saved the beast for last. The Mach 5 is what most people have their eyes on at the carnival. The braver ones get on it, while others just get a kick out of watching people get flung 55 metres into the air. If this spunky ride doesn’t faze you, neither will Sofnade’s monstrously green Wasabi Mayo Chicken Wings. Much like the Mach 5, if you can pluck up the courage to try it, it’s gonna be good.
