Goodbye Forever: Artistry, Ah Bong’s Italian and The Betterfield

Lamenting the exit of longtime favourites, and where to get over the grief for chilli crab burger, pasta and more.

Adieu, Artistry

Artistry has officially closed its doors, leaving us with only fond, fond memories of their Chilli Crab Burger and PB & J French Toast. Kampong Glam will never be the same without the well-loved art gallery and cafe. But if it’s any consolation, their art bar concept Intermission Bar is just a skip away at The Projector! Check out their lunch specials, grilled cheese or donburi paired with a coffee for only $10 every Wednesday to Friday (12pm-2pm)!

Pasta La Vista, Baby

It’s been a good two year-run for Ah Bong’s Italian and their unconventional pastas, but alas, the popular joint is pulling the plug to pursue a new project — we heard something about running a school canteen (those lucky kids)! Tomorrow (Apr 13) is their last day, so swing by for one last pasta hurrah.

Go down memory lane on how the humble Italian joint first started here.

To Better Days Ahead

The bowing out of The Betterfield and their Black Angus Ribeye Steak broke our hearts a little, but their Japanese half The Bettership lives on to serve chirashi and wagyu bowls. We’re also keeping our fingers crossed for even better things ahead for the group!

Goodbye Isn’t Forever

If you always had a sweet spot in your heart for Cream & Custard’s Watermelon and Strawberry Cake, you should know that their Tiong Bahru cafe is soon to close. They will continue to operate there till May 4, before moving to a new takeaway location. Hurry on and make one more run to dine in!

In case you missed these closures:

The great food —that cauliflower steak and funnel cake— at Crackerjack will be greatly missed. The good news is, they’re still serving up those solid cocktails at the bar upstairs, Junior. Even better, their website hints at something new to come, so look forward to that!

House at Dempsey
A decade later and a lifetime too soon, the iconic house closes due to their lease agreement. There are no plans to relocate as far as we know, but you can still get some of the firm favourites (tau sar pau please!) at 40 Hands.

Also shuttered is Scorch, the too short-lived concept for tasty and affordable rice bowls, including what Burppler Fiona Ting called a ‘seriously saucy’ Braised Pork Belly Rice. If you still need your lu rou fan fix, try Give Me More nearby at Chinatown Complex Market & Food Centre or Eat 3 Bowls at Seah Im Food Centre — the latter’s further, but absolutely worth travelling the distance for!
