Goodbye Forever: San Bistro

Goodbye Forever is our farewell tribute to the restaurants, cafes and bars that gave us good times while they lasted.

When we first unearthed this hidden gem tucked along Eastwood Road in 2016, we waxed lyrical about its excellently pan seared fish, smart set lunches and the incredible value for money prices. Fast forward two years later, San Bistro has gone from clinching a well-deserved spot on our Hot 100 2018 list (Extraordinary Value category) to serving its last customers, just a week ago on 31 May. It’s been a great run for these down-to-earth fine dining guys. Let’s hope they’re planning a return — perhaps to somewhere more central?

The Playground Coffee

On the other side of town, this all-rounder of a coffee joint has also closed. Having won over the Burpple community with their smooth cuppas and affordable rice bowls, The Playground Coffee will surely be missed. Westies, leg on over to Kohi-Ya for your caffeine fix.

Delicius Pasticceria

Sorry Lau Pa Sat folks, this Japanese bakery cafe is no longer in town. To get your hands on their soft, dense Pomme Fromage (from $6 a slice), make a trip up to their Northpoint City outlet instead.

Revolution Coffee

Quietly and to our despair, Revolution Coffee closed shop back in April. Apart from its spacious venue and good coffee, the Buona Vista cafe was best known for serving up chef Shen Tan’s revolutionary twice-cooked nasi lemak. Not all’s lost — find out how you can have the dish again here!
