Summer Hill
Set up by chef-owner Anthony Yeoh, this down to earth bistro in the Sunset Way neighbourhood serves up affordable and tasty comfort food reminiscent of the country style cooking he was known for, back in now defunct French restaurant Cocotte.

MYO restobar
By the same guys behind Cantonese restaurant Kia Hiang in Tanjong Pagar, this modern-chic restaurant in Oxley Tower is the perfect joint for home-style Cantonese lunches in the CBD. It’s our top vote for lunch with the colleagues on days you don’t feel like braving food court crowds.

Say Chiizu
Thailand’s highly Instagrammable cheese toast has found its way to our shores, and the crowds are going putty for their cute packaging and uber stretchy cheese, made with imported Japanese milk and a blend of fresh cheeses. The queues are relentless — so consider yourself warned!
Positano Risto
This Muslim-owned Italian restaurant in Bussorah Street serves hearty, casual classics like pizzas, pastas and tiramisu to the Arab Street ‘hood. We’re hearing great stuff about their prawn aglio olio and artichoke risotto — share your experience on Burpple if you’ve dined here!
Oh My Mango
This Thai-style dessert cafe has opened just in time for rising temperatures, bringing cool-you-down Thai milk teas and icy bingsu to Jurong. The extensive menu also includes thick Shibuya toasts, mango sticky rice and a delicious matcha mango latte, which has Burppler Miss Ha ~’s seal of approval!
Brew & Bar
A hop and a skip away from East Village shopping mall in Tanah Merah, this restobar serves up tasty Peranakan dishes, alongside a selection of draught beers. Burppler Dex Neo dined here recently and really enjoyed their Nonya assam pedas (fish head) and otak otak, while Burppler Peter Wong had great things to say about their babi pongteh (pork stew) and chap chye. Happy hour from 7-9pm sees beers going at $10 nett a pint!
Uya
We were alerted to this new live grilled eel specialty restaurant in Wheelock Place by Burppler Shawn Loh, who deems Uya a worthy rival to the exceptionally popular Man Man Unagi Japanese Restaurant. The eels here at Uya are supplied by a wholesaler in Nagoya, and the kitchen is led by head chef Kojima-san, who has previously worked at top unagi restaurants in Nagoya.

Little Farms
A quiet grocer known for farm fresh produce sourced from Australia and Europe, Little Farms has recently expanded to incorporate a cafe on its premises. The dishes on the Little Farms Cafe’s all-day breakfast and brunch menu are made with the same foods and produce from their grocer arm, which essentially means fresh, nutritious fare and one of the closest farm-to-table dining experiences you’ll get in a Singapore shopping mall.

Origin Grill & Bar
Charming our Burpple community with its stellar beef dishes and fun cocktails inspired by Singapore’s various districts, Shangri-La Hotel Singapore’s latest dining concept is on our list for treat night. Burpplers Shawn Loh and K T have both been won over by the Snow-Aged Full Blood Wagyu A4 ($168++), which they described to be cooked to perfection. That’s what we’ll go for, along with an order of the gorgeously presented cocktail, The Pearl.
Bobii Frutti
Fronted here by local celebrity Nat Ho, this Taiwanese bubble tea brand Bobii Frutti is well-known for its highly Instagrammable layered bubble tea and fruit-infused drinks. The menu at The Clementi Mall flagship is about 80 percent similar to what the Taiwan outlets offer, and these guys pride themselves on using only natural ingredients in their drinks (the colourful Mermaid Tears, for example, gets its purplish-blue hue from butterfly pea extract).
Moosh
This new takeaway kiosk at Haji Lane is just what the doctor prescribed on hot, humid days — smooth and creamy soft serve! Burppler Xing Wei Chua, who visited recently, shares that they have various flavours including Apple Crumble, Smores, Strawberry Cheesecake and Ondeh Ondeh. See you there when this cold spell blows over and temperatures climb!
Seven & Ate
Joining all the cool kids in Jalan Besar, this new cafe on Horne Road dishes up hearty plates the Burpple community is already lapping up, both for taste as well as the happy price points. We’ve heard great things about the Duck Confit from Burppler Jayson Yeo, the Spam & Egg Sandwich from Burppler Natalie Wong, and the Breaded Eggplant from Burppler Dex Neo. Kimme
Chef-owner Sun Kim of Michelin-starred Meta is the man behind this smart bistro in Amoy Street. The food here takes a distinctly more casual slant compared to the fine-dining plates at Meta, but features the same Asian-inspired influences with a heavy dose of Korean. The kitchen is headed by head chef Louis Han, who has worked alongside chef Kim for the past two years.
Mak Hong Kee HK Kitchen
Located right next to Foong Kee Coffee Shop on Keong Saik Road, this new entrant to the Chinatown food circuit dishes up comforting Hong Kong classics — think rice, noodle and congee dishes, along with incredible roast meats. Burppler Shawn Loh heard through the grapevine that the chef here has had experience working at various Michelin-starred restaurants — if this is the case, we are definitely not surprised judging by the excellent cooking.
Cast Iron
Tucked away in a corner of DUO Galleria, this modern Japanese grill is a secret gem among the Burpple community for celebratory dining. Prices are on the high side, but the quality checks out — must-try dishes so far include the $380 Chef’s Selection Sashimi Platter (good for six) and a 2kg Ribeye Bone-In Double Cut, which Burppler Tiara Lim really enjoyed.
Sing’s
Sing's HK Cafe is back after closing down their Everton Park shop, this time at a coffee shop near JCube — hurray for fans of their cha chaan teng inspired fare! Burppler Xing Wei Chua really enjoyed their signature Classic Braised Pork Belly Rice which, while slightly different in presentation, remains equally delish and comforting.
Pizza Maru
This Korean pizza chain (which has over 600 stores across Korea, Hong Kong, China and New York) has landed on our shores, bringing us a taste of their patented “well-being pizza dough” made using green tea and black rice, which Burppler Farah Leong describes to be soft and delicious. There are also other fun Korean dishes like Bibimbap Tower and Carbonara Toppoki. Their menu is also free from pork and lard. Let us know what you think by sharing a review on the app!
Kazo
Pop by this Taiwanese bakery for their renowned baked treats, which the Burpple community is lapping up. Options are aplenty, from cheese tarts to ice cream polo buns. If there’s only one thing you get, make it their much acclaimed Kazu Kazu Cream Puff. P.s. Plan a visit soon to enjoy the organic soy milk served in limited edition, tongue-in-cheek hunky bottles!
Five &2
Taking over the space of the now defunct Wild Oats at Punggol Park, this new social enterprise concept by the Timbre folks is all set to spruce up foodie offerings in the north-east. Apart from a hiring policy that includes marginalised members in the society, they also give a meal to an underprivileged child for every five meals sold.
Ma Cuisine
This spanking new gastrowine bar (it opened on 1 January) has ticked all the right boxes despite our high expectations for food and drink — no easy feat, we assure you. First established in Beaune, France in 1996, Ma Cuisine now brings classic French cooking and excellent wines to Craig Road (it’s taken over the spot of now defunct restaurant in ITALY).
One Bowl
Nestled within The Sultan Hotel, One Bowl does hearty homestyle cooking really well, and we heard from Burppler Daniel Food Diary that the Char Siew Noodles are amazing, and always quick to sell out. Glistening, melt-in-the-mouth meat atop springy noodles — we can’t wait to try this; tell us if you have!
665°F
File this new spot atop Andaz Singapore for swanky meals in the CBD. The heart of the kitchen is the Pira oven and grill, in which halal-certified prime cuts and seafood are cooked to perfection. Try Burppler Rachel Chua’s recommendation of Jumbo Lump Crab Cakes and tell us if you enjoyed it as much as she did!
Casa Poncho
We’re loving the Latin flavour Casa Poncho is bringing to the Bukit Pasoh ‘hood. Rock up to this trendy spot for punchy sharing plates (think ceviche, skewers and churros), potent Mezcal cocktails and a whole lot of fun. Girls’ night out, anybody?
The Wired Monkey
Burppler Xing Wei Chua is loving this new cafe in the heart of Little India for its hearty bistro grub; case in point, the Falafel Burger is a flavour bomb and extremely substantial. We hear their coffee is pretty good too! P.s. Their menu is currently pretty compact, but they’re working on it.
