The only recommendation I got for NZ. And the one that pops up at the top of every must-try list of to-eats in NZ: The Fergburger. Went back twice and tried four burgers. This one was the pork belly. Two slabs of pork belly with tender meat, melt-in-your-mouth fat, but not so crispy skin. The hashbrow was an added surprise.
The heartstopping Big Al - double beef patty, 2 eggs, lots of bacon.
The queue is insane especially during peak hours. Had this burger past dinner time and still had to wait 30 minutes! The beef patty with melted cheddar cheese was superb and I loved the BBQ sauce and mayo. The bread could be more fluffy but still a really solid burger. Also tried the pork belly burger which I didn't like as much as the beef. The Boston cream donut had a very light, fragrant vanilla cream but the donut was way too limp.
Panna cotta with Marsala figs and pistachio gelato. Not too bad. Melted very easily but good flavours!
I could barely finish; Just not ravenous enough.
Ferg Burger spots a very very long queue. Be prepared to wait an hour, otherwise eat at odd hours like 10 am like I did. Opens 8.30am - 4.30am daily. Yes 4.30 am ...
The bun are toasted that gives you that crunch when you sink your teeth in. The top bun is spread with their homemade tomato relish and bottom bun is spread with garlic aioli. They're very generous with lettuce and with slices of huge tomatoes. The beef patty is juicy. This is one massive burger! Be prepared to wait for at least 30 minutes.
