Looking at Food Anatomy’s range of beautifully constructed savoury food cubes, I see it as a way to reshape how we consume our local delights and bring convenience when we need a quick meal fix.Hence having the staff recommend three of their more popular flavours, I got the Yuzu Salmon Rice, Bacon Potato and Teriyaki Chicken Rice.

Combining two well-loved ingredients - bacon and creamy mashed potatoes, the Bacon Potato could hardly go wrong (kinda tasted like a compact shepherd’s pie). The lightest of the three, the Yuzu Salmon Rice had a nice hint of citrus with spinach and beetroot rice as base. Packing lots of flavour, the Teriyaki Chicken Rice cube though not as vibrant as the other two had more balanced layers as the gravy-soaked calrose rice were able to pull the elements together.

Overall, the proteins can get a tad dry but having them on a whole still makes for a satisfying and substantial meal. Great for take-aways and when you would like to try a variety.


Having heard from Sid about this place just below our gym, I decided to try it out. The top-down cubic structure of it really captures my attention. It's like a photogenic piece of food art; a fresh rendition of the local delicacies. I asked the person over the counter bar "If I have to try just one, which one would you recommend?" He suggested the yuzu salmon and teriyaki chicken. But something compelled me to try the salmon first, despite the nicely dressed teriyaki chicken. I am glad I tried this first, since how much a of difference would teriyaki chicken taste in a cube.

The yuzu salmon has a big juicy piece of salmon slab starting from the top, followed by rice with some vegetables and finally beetroot. I have read through Jean's review about the yuzu salmon and I agree with her totally. The salmon with the glazed yuzu is absolutely a mouth-watering combination on its own. The citrus mixed with the salmon oil stimulates you to take another bite, and another bite. At this point I can't make a fair argument that this is indeed the cube to try if you have not tried before, but I would say just go for it if you really like citrus or yuzu to begin with.

Food Anatomy has both dine-in and take-away options, offering to preheat the cubes for you upon order.

At $2.50 per cube it's an affordable piece of art that sometimes longs for you to admire visually but with a heavy heart, you know you have to consume it.


I had food cubes the other day. At Tanjong Pagar MRT station there's a store called Food Anatomy that also serves up Illy coffee, and this was all on display! Pretty cubes of favourite dishes. I jumped to get the (clockwise from bottom left) Thai basil pork rice, teriyaki rice cube, bacon and sweet potato cube and seafood pasta bake. Of the four, I think the teriyaki done and the sweet potato bacon were perfect. Honestly, one is enough for an entire meal, about the width of my palm and the height of a muffin. I microwaved them when I got home and had them - still good! The teriyaki one in particular was great, it tasted like the gravy-soaked rice from tori-Q with a layer of shredded seaweed and topped with juicy morsels of chicken

Verdict: Interesting savoury that taste exactly like the actual food but all packed down to cake sized like. Dun worry about the portion, 2 of it is sufficient for a lady and probably 3 is sufficient for a male. The cube seems to be freezed and microwave to hot upon orders. And thats probably why some of the meat has a strong smell.
Return?: when i lose my appetite and needs some happy food.

Nasi Lemak ($2.50)

Tried the new food cubes @foodanatomysg . Pretty interesting concept for people who love to take a little of each ingredient and pile them on a spoon before eating. Here you get to see exactly all of the layers of a traditional nasi lemak without the fried chicken. This is served warm as they would heat it up for you. Without the current promotion, the usual price is $4.50/cube. Tastes pretty decent but I think I would still prefer my usual nasi lemak packet which is probably way better in terms of value for $.


At first I was slightly sceptical, but it actually tasted not too bad.
Need to get used as the rice is packed like "Kueh kueh" and feels like a carb overload, but each component gelled well.
Loved the sambal Chilli. Check out their other stuff too.
Don't say bojio. Their promo now is 3 for $5!
