(22 SGD) with crispy skin and flaky interior, the snapper mains was delightful. Placed on a bed of stir fried shimeji mushrooms and onions not visible in the pic. The peas purée and tomato condiments complimented the fillet well. Plating makes the dish look small but it was quite substantial. Only gripe about Fyr is that it’s location is not ideal, it’s on a busy road.

Chicken was tasty, but menu was different from what was provided in burpple app. There was many limitations, as there were only 5 dishes that was available to choose for 1-1. The one listed on burpple app that says Aglio Olio was also not avail at the shop. Do check the menu on what’s avail before making the decision to head down.

This was simply amazing. Tender and juicy chicken, sauce so good I wanted to kick it off the plate, potatoes accompaniment also hit the mark, and roasted garlic bulb added an extra dimension to the dish. wow.

The final dish we had at @fyrjalanbesar was the sublime Spinach & Mushroom Ravioli ($22++). It’s not covered by #burpplebeyond 1-for-1, but that’s quite alright. Each serving consists of four average sized parcels of pasta wrapped around the gift of a spinach & mushroom filling that might be bound together by ricotta cheese.⠀

While I was expecting more filling in each ravioli for the price I was paying, the fillings within were plenty flavoursome. The umami moreishness of the mushrooms interacts well with the slightly sharp & vegetal flavour of the spinach, and they’re wrapped up in a thin, supple pasta dough that was cooked absolutely al dente.⠀

The superbly savoury crème sauce inundating the dish is fortified with truffle oil & parmesan, giving the rich cream sauce the heady aroma of truffle and the satisfying sapidity of the grated parmesan. Everything in this dish is soft and requires minimal chewing, so it could’ve gotten a bit boring without the intervention of some crunchy toasted walnuts. Cheese, cream & nuts go well together, and Fyr’s redolent ravioli is yet another testament to that immutable fact.⠀

Ravioli ravioli, give me the pasta I deservioli. 🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽

The seafood risotto ($18++) was the #burpplebeyond dish at @fyrjalanbesar that I was hyped up for, but that turned out to be a letdown. While the trio of mussels & triumvirate of shrimp were passably fresh, it wasn’t particularly tasty.⠀

The risotto itself was overcooked, and the rice grains were mush. I tasted none of the promised chorizo in the dish, and it was all banally bland. I don’t know if this is the normal standard for the risotto, but if this is the standard it definitely isn’t good enough.⠀

The risotto is quite an anticlimax here, but the first rate free range chicken definitely softened the blow from this disappointment.⠀

Brand new year, same old me spamming your Instagram with food porn and I feel no shame for it. @fyr.sg has been on my wishlist for years, but it’s only recently that I finally got my ass in gear to dine there. @fyrjalanbesar opening up closer to my crib was a factor, but the real reason is that they’re now on #burpplebeyond.⠀

The @burpple 1-for-1 selection is disappointingly limited, but I was definitely NOT disappointed by this fantastic Free Range Half Chicken ($22++). Perhaps I approached this dish with absolutely zero expectations, but good lord this was divinely delectable. It’s diminutive in size but certainly not in flavour, as the little bird is grilled perfectly. Even the breast meat is astonishingly moist, juicy and adequately savoury. Those little char marks you see on the skin added a seductive smokiness to the bird, and it was damn near perfect.

The curious curried brown butter sauce was luscious & sapid with a little sourness to restrain the richness of the sauce. It really did taste of curry powder, but it lacked any sort of heat. What it didn’t lack, however, was flavour & satisfaction. The roast potatoes were done decently, and I’ve always loved olives so I’m a happy man with that.⠀

Fyr got off to such a good start with this hearty half chicken that me and my pals ordered seconds. And thanks to Burpple Beyond, those seconds were even sweeter.
