I’m not a salad person but the DIY grain bowl from Da Paolo Gastronomia is really good. The Balanced Bowl ($14.90) comes with 2 grains/bases, 1 protein, 2 vegetables and 1 dollop of your choice. There is a wide array of ingredients to choose from and they are all pretty delicious.

For base, I like the multi grains and seeds, summer barley salad, and braised lentils and confit leeks (+$1). For protein, the Moroccan Chicken Thigh (+$2) is tender and full of flavour. For vegetables, my favourites include baked Moroccan eggplant (+$1), roasted turmeric cauliflower and roasted carrots. Lastly, I love hummus and had to get the chickpea hummus for dollop - was not disappointed!

Overall, this is nutritious and delicious and the portion is substantial - nice!

beef ragout, italian tomatoes & parmesan

What is Easter without the iconic Hot Cross Buns ($3.90 each), a spiced sweet soft bread made with a sourdough base, 6-spice mix, orange zest and dark-rum soaked sultanas. Once its baked, the buns are glazed with a fruit glaze and decorated with a cross made from flour paste. The best way to enjoy these buns will be to warm them in the toaster with slices of unsalted butter and sea salt, and you can pair them with a cup of hot black coffee or tea. The choice of beverages and the addition of butter and salt can help to balance the sweetness of the buns.

Made by Greeks around the world to celebrate various holidays throughout the year, the sweet Tsoureki braided bread ($9.90, available on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only) from Da Paolo is made with Greek mahlepi spice with a cherry and bitter almond flavour, and Greek mastic. The Tsoureki comes dotted with white sesame seeds and lemon zest and is perfect to go alongside a cup of hot beverage as well.

a very nutty combination - perfect for when you’re craving the rich flavours of Italian gelato! it did get a tad ‘jelat’ and cloyingly sweet towards the end though

This was disappointingly mediocre, especially at this price. The cauliflower rice was undercooked and tasteless, and I had to mix it with the hummus to make it palatable. The falafel was extremely dry, hard and crumbly. I liked the sides, but they weren’t special.

Base: cauliflower ryce
Protein: baked falafel with caramelised onions
Sides: brusselsprout and jicama salad with cranberries, turmeric cauliflower
Dollop: hummus

This huge almond croissant has been calling out to me forever and I finally bought it to try. Love it. It’s huge. It’s sweet. It’s crispy. What else’s can I ask for from almond croissant. I’m glad it didn’t disappoint me. Pair with a cup of tea to make it my own afternoon tea set
