When @gathershop.co shared about new weekday lunch items on their Instagram, I immediately wishlisted the Keema Curry ($18). Made it down last Friday to have it and confirmed what I’d felt in my bones - it’s a real gem!
Co-owner @huishaan revealed to me that the dish was inspired by a particular curry restaurant in Japan that bossman @vincteng used to frequent. I could see the country’s influence in the precise, minimalist style of presentation. But there’s clearly a maximalist approach when it came to the taste.
That neat circle of minced chicken and pork curry on a bed of Japanese rice was by no means meek and mild. Instead, it was strikingly complex in aroma and flavour. The level of spiciness, being at an inviting medium, should please the majority. I loved that the curry was presented with an onsen egg on top (it added a silky lusciousness) as well as slices of house-pickled beetroot (those brought a welcome palate-cleansing crunch after mouthfuls of the rich meaty curry rice).
Do note this dish, along with the other lunch items, are only available on weekdays from 11.30am onwards.

White Coffee, 5oz ($5++) was weak & it felt like I was drinking milk. Wouldn't recommend...

On the brighter side, though, service here was very attentive & the staff always made sure my glass of water was topped up & full.

Comparing against previous reviews - looks like Gather has upped the price of the Off the Bone Galette ($18++). It had good texture, but the flavours were just ordinary. A bit too salty for me. I wasn't expecting too much from ham, gruyere, cheddar & egg though, tbh.

In all, this felt like an overpriced tea time snack... Glad I tried it once, but unfortunately I personally wouldn't return for more.

Not a lot of places in Singapore that you can find good galettes. But definitely you could get your fix at Gather! This was their Salami & Potatoes ($19). I love how their galettes is not overly thick and their seasoning is not overpowering. I like how the galettes showcase the savoriness from the salami against the good soft crunchy texture of those well seasoned potatoes. The sunny yolk added creaminess to the hint of cheesiness in that galette too. Really loved how balanced the flavors are and with the different layer of texture one dish brings!

Couldn’t really taste the mustard in this dish and overall felt that their flavours didn’t seem to go well with a buckwheat base. Not sure if I would return as I much prefer the flavours from French Fold

Ratatouille; Lemon & lime tart- surprisingly refreshing for people who don't like sweets. Not bad, but be prepared to queue.
