I was always sceptical about Genki because I thought it was gimmicky - why should I pay extra just so I can have my food served to me on a train?? That is until a friend got me hooked on it. Indeed, an inner-child part of me derives joy from being able to order whatever I want whenever I want and having it arrive at the table just like that. It’s great when you’re feeling snacky and not up for a large meal. My favourites are the Genki roll and the soba noodles!

Please take note of the size — Mini! It’s a small bowl that can fit into your palm. Fish and rice is sweet and flavourful.

Genki Sushi’s food never fails to satisfy my sushi and mentaiko cravings!! Fresh ingredients are used and prices are reasonable for the quality! 😋 i now know why their queue is forever long 🤣

I personally think Genki's sushi and sashimi are good - fuss-free, firmly-shaped rice, and thick enough cuts. I also like their contactless ordering through the web app and delivered to you through the train system (don't need to download anything and don't have to wait for anyone to take your order, send it to the kitchen and serve it to you, and nobody other than you and the chef touch the plates). The salmon nigiri (also the salmon belly sashimi and maguro nigiri) are fresh, generous and make a good casual bite. In frame is a triple salmon nigiri sushi but I can't review the mentaiko salmon and black pepper mayo salmon objectively as I hate sushi with toppings (mentaiko lovers gonna hate but anyways).
.
A suggestion is probably to have more items on its own without sauces e.g. fried salmon skin only? As when I visited, only salmon skin with salted egg sauce was listed in the menu:( And the wasabi is not the spicy, fuming type which is quite a letdown. Also, probably Genki can have the wasabi served by itself on a small plate upon request instead of packing it in single-use plastic wraps.

The Salmon da Bomb Don (S$6.20) was a limited-time item. As a mini Don, it was served in a soup bowl, half-filled with steam rice, and layered with Tempura-battered salmon before drizzled with sauce and finished with an Onsen egg.

Beating the egg gently and giving it a little mix to the rice, the taste of the salmon actually went pretty nicely with the eggy rice to balance the taste. Although the food didn’t stack beyond the brim of the bowl as the menu had shown, I was still pleased with the overall flavours. Let’s just say it was a good excuse to order more items to make the meal more filling.

Salmon belly was really juicy and fresh ($1.90++), will always come back for this and the mentaiko fries. Chicken nanban which is fried karage w some potato salad toppings (with bits of onions, egg) was ~ok~ w discount (50% off for new genki app users!)
