Probably the most traditional experience you can get, Geylang Lor 9 Fresh Frog Porridge really has alot to offer.

From having no menu but just pictures of available dishes on a side of a wall, to sitting on traditional plastic chairs outside on the street, it was really a kind of dining experience I missed. We ordered a variety of dishes and their quality was superb!

The Sambal Kang Kong was not only well seasoned and stir fried to perfection, there was actually a good amount of wok hei that gave the dish an extra oomph factor.

Oysters in the oyster omelette were fresh and the fried omelette was crispy on some parts and fluffy on others. Chilli sauce was sour and savoury enough!

The sambal stingray was really the star of the show with not only a meaty bite, but packed with smoky flavours. The sambal had a wonderful umami flavour and yet was not too spicy.

Now we come to the staple, the frog leg porridge. We ordered them stewed in a spicy sauce, and indeed they packed a punch. Frog leg pieces were very fresh and absolutely delicious. The sauce isn't too salty and was perfect with the porridge!

Loved the whole atmosphere and dining experience, together with the food quality and quantity. The total bill was $63 for all dishes ordered, which can easily feed 3 people. A reasonable price I would say. Do remember to bring cash as you can only pay for a few dishes using paynow. Definitely will be back!

Ordered both the spicy and non-spicy frog leg since they cost the same to have one or two in the same claypot. The non-spicy version uses dark soya sauce, ginger and spring onions while the spicy version has the addition of dried chilli in the sauce. The frog meat is cooked till tender and it soaks up the thick and rich sauce well. I like to drizzle the sauce over the thick, smooth and gooey porridge for more flavours. Overall, I preferred the non-spicy version for its original flavours. The dried chilli in the spicy version somehow overpowers the original flavours of the sauce.

The fried oyster omelette is fried till crispy with a gooey starchy centre and comes with a good serving of oysters. The ratio of eggs to starch was just nice, not overly starchy and pairs well with the tangy chilli sauce.

Dry Chilli Frog Leg 》$8.50 / frog
Ginger Spring Onion Frog Leg 》$8.50 / frog
Plain Porridge 》$3 / medium
Fried Oyster 》$5

Taste was not bad but serving was extremely small and wait was long. We ordered the small portion which cost $8.50 but is a serving of one frog. The meal with porridge cost more than $10. Porridge was smooth but didn’t taste outstanding. Frog gong bao was flavourful but not any better than the others in Geylang.
